Luxembourg’s Tom Heck has been with us since the beginning. He is a bass player, a guitar player, and the leader of The Grund Club SONGWRITERS Band. The Band consists of 4 professional musicians and a producer and they have regular rehearsals. Their job is to learn, transcribe, re-arrange and perform songs from The Grud Club Song Catalogue. Tom has been the bass player for all of The Grund Club SONGWRITERS shows, starting in September 2014. He has also replaced Sebastian Flach on occasion, at The Grund Club VOICES show and has also performed in The Grund Club SAMPLER Band. Tom started off in 2005 at the BLUESSCHOUL, in Differdange. He was the prodigy student of Remo Cavallini (also a club artist) and was blowing people’s minds as a guitar player at the age of 18. From 2008 to 2013 he joined the department of jazz at the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg and became a working musician at a very young age, playing anything from Blues to Jazz to cover bands, to funk, to playing with classical based orchestras (OPL) to Big Band (LJO) and many other projects. In 2013 Tom Heck went to study jazz guitar abroad, in Brussels, and one year after that he started studying jazz bass too. Since then his main instrument has become the bass guitar, and he is influenced by his father, the legendary Romain Heck, and by musicians like Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, Chet Baker, Paul Chambers, Jaco Pastorius, Wayne Shorter, Ray Brown, Hiriam Bullock, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, and others. Tom’s own project is called the Elastophobics, where he still plays guitar, with Gilles Bernard on drums (The Grund Club SONGWRITERS Band) and Slawek Semeniuk on bass. He also plays guitar for Claudia Losito, the Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra, and other projects. At 22 years of age Tom Heck is already a reference in the Luxembourgish music scene and we are excited about his continuing contribution to The Grund Club SONGWRITERS Department.
